So you’ve gotten the preparation in, you’ve done some training, and now you’re ready to deliver. These videos will help you know what to do during the speech.

So you have to give a speech and you haven’t had a whole lot of time to prepare, so it’s real important to you that you have some notes to bring up on stage with you, because you don’t want to forget anything. Using notes is okay. You know I’m not an advocate of memorizing speeches, but using notes or a speaker’s outline can be very effective, and see those videos for more information.

What I want to talk to you about today is the difference between using notes and a notepad while you’re going to present. If you have a podium or a lectern where notes are going to be able to sit on top of, you don’t need to worry about this, but if you’re in a situation where you’re going to have to hold your notes, here’s something to really think about. A lot of people, when they go up to speak on stage, are a little nervous and that’s okay. Even if you aren’t and you hold a sheet of paper like this, it shakes just a little bit. If you’re shaking because you’re a little nervous, you can see that shaking even more. To eradicate that, bring up a notepad or portfolio, because even if you’re nervous, to shake this visually is going to take a lot of work and most likely you’re not going to do that on stage.

So use your notes, but be comfortable. Hold a portfolio and let the shaking go away.
